Overview
The work will entail supporting the NIST artificial intelligence research and evaluation programs in contributing to standards developing organizations (SDOs)
Contributions to voluntary consensus standards on artificial intelligence
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, OR a Bachelor’s degree in such a field and professional experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in such a field.
- Familiarity with machine learning methods, including hands-on implementation experience with at least two machine learning-driven systems.
- Familiarity with AI governance guidelines such as the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including both envisioning structure and content for nascent documents and line editing mature documents for technical precision and readability.
Research Proposal
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Identifying SDO projects, committees, or calls for input to which NIST experts should contribute.
- Crafting NIST written contributions to those projects, committees, or calls for input.
- Distributing SDO materials and potential NIST contributions to other NIST experts for input and review.
- Submitting NIST contributions in a timely fashion.
- Attending SDO committee meetings, including international meetings, to discuss contributions from NIST, other U.S. contributors, and international contributors.
- Sharing information about contributions and standards activities with interested NIST experts.
- If applicable, acting as an editor or in another leadership capacity for standards projects.
