Postdoctoral Researcher
Project PREP0003307 · NIST sponsor Eric Norrgard
Overview
Researcher will develop a thermometer based on atomic fluorescence intensity ratios. This research
project will explore several novel and high-risk techniques for realizing a primary temperature
sensor in a compact package. This will require operating an locking multiple lasers to atomic
transitions, fiber optic design and operation, multilevel rate equation simulations, and careful
characterization of systematic effects.
Qualifications
- PhD in Physics or a related field
- Experience is required in two or more of the following areas: - frequency stabilization of laser systems - Python programming - temperature metrology - modeling population dynamics with a set of coupled rate equations
Research Proposal
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Perform experimental tasks toward realizing a primary thermometer base on rubidium atoms
- Data analysis
- Disseminating project results via peer-reviewed publications and public presentations
